New Movies to Crave: Get High on Christmas with Harold & Kumar or Join the Tower Heist

Two comedies will duke it out for weekend supremacy, unless a certain cat can show he still has claws.

1) I'm giving the edge to Tower Heist, simply because I like the timely matter of the story and the ensemble cast, including a reactivated Eddie Murphy, actually looks like they're having fun. It looks like a straight comedic version of the Ocean's film - who can resist Ben Stiller paired with Gabourey Sidibe or Alan Alda playing the nasty multi-millionaire who schemes his employees out of their money? I'm not expecting Murphy to rise to the excellence of say Trading Places, but based on the previews, this looks a million times better than Meet Dave or 'shudder' Norbit.

2) The weekend's other comedic relief comes in the form of stoner duo Harold & Kumar (the back-from-D.C. Kal Penn and John Cho). I admit, I think the first two films are pretty good - if only because the cameo by Neil Patrick Harris is always outrageous and hilarious. Sure, there is crude humor, dumb jokes (and characters) but in the end, Harold & Kumar are just a couple normal stoners caught in extraordinary circumstances, and they make the best of it.

We'll see if audiences are in the mood to laugh this weekend or if Puss in Boots can find some traction. See you back on Sunday with the results.

You're shitting me about Tower Heist...right? Looks Gawd awful. Hollywood has it down though and knows how to make money. The budget on that film was probably 5 mil and it will gross about 50 mil (including DVD).
