New Movies to Crave: Get Hung Over at The Tree of Life with a Kung Fu Panda Too

Nothing like a three-day holiday to sufficiently recover from another Hangover.

1) I was bummed after watching The Hangover that I skipped it in theaters. I won't make the same mistake twice. This time our merry group of wayward men find themselves in Thailand along with Ken Jeong's over-the-top character, Mr. Chow. While critics are arguing it's a rehash of the original, I don't think that's a bad thing seeing as how entertaining the original turned out to be. Luckily a last-minute disgruntled tattoo artist couldn't derail the release and I for one am looking forward to another crazy adventure.

2) In other sequel news Jack Black returns as the Panda Po in Kung Fu Panda 2. I have to admit, I did enjoy the original a lot more than I was expecting. It's about time for a new animated film to hit the market, and it's good bet for families going up against an R-rated comedy. Still, with Pirates 4 still fresh, it will be interested to see where both films wind up when the final tally is taken.

3) Finally, fresh off a getting the top prize at Cannes (even after receiving a fair amount of boos from the audience), the elusive Terrence Malick presents his family drama / cosmic epic Tree of Life. Even after reading into this film a little, I have no idea what it's truly about or whether I would be interested. Still, out of curiosity I will have to watch this - though I may be awhile before it gets to my area. Might be a Netflix choice in the future.

With the long weekend, I'll have full results Monday instead of Sunday. We'll see if The Hangover II can live up to the original and how Pirates 4 fares with tougher competition.
