Fatima, The High Note and More in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin

By Chris Kavan - 04/01/20 at 01:36 PM CT

At this point, it seems like it's easier to keep track of how many films have been taken off the schedule rather than the ones that are still there. As it stands, even though the following wide-releases are still scheduled to come out in the coming months, don't be surprised if they are moved around as well - or go straight to streaming or VOD as it stands. Thus, the religious-themed Fatima and the feel-good music-based romance The High Note, still scheduled for early Spring releases, could both be delayed - stay tuned.

Who doesn't like a good comeback story? Who also doesn't like to see the underdog reach their full potential? And who doesn't like strong, female-driven films? That's the trifeca you will get with The High Note. Directed by Nisha Ganatra (Late Night, as well as several episodes for TV from Mr. Robot to Brooklyn Nine-Nine), the film follows a superstar diva in Grace Davis (Tracee Ellis Ross) and her harried personal assistant Maggie (Dakota Johnson). Davis is stuck in a rut - having performed her hits for several years to sold-out crowds, but is ready to release some new music... for the first time in a decade. Maggie, who has dreamed of producing, sees a golden opportunity while Grace's manager (Ice Cube) is dubious about the whole project. I'm guessing that we're going to get a new album in the end. But it isn't just about music, we also have to have some romance and that comes in the form of Kelvin Harrison Jr., who looks to be the romantic interest for Maggie. The film also stars Bill Pullman, Eddie Izzard, Zoe Chao, June Diane Raphael and Ben Lewis. Currently scheduled for a May 08 release, we'll have to see if this stays or if it gets pushed back like so many other films. Rated PG-13 for some strong language, and suggestive references.

Thought the religious-themed Fatima was originally scheduled for an Easter Weekend release, like so many other films, this has now been pushed back to August. The films follows three children Lucia (Stephanie Gil), Francisco (Jorge Lamelas) and Jacinta (Alejandra Howard) who say they have encountered a vision of The Virgin Mary. The story spreads as they say the vision will appear on the 13th of the coming months. It soon attracts people from around the world who want to witness this miracle, as well as draw the ire of both the church and Portugal's secular government - who want the children to recant their message. This is a historical event and the outcome is already known but the uplifting story is sure to still bring in a specific crowd. The film does have some bigger names: Harvey Keitel, Goran Visnjic, Sônia Braga, Joaquim de Almeida and Joana Ribeiro all star. I have a feeling this would have done much better for Easter, but what can you do against a global pandemic? Rated PG-13 for some strong violence and disturbing images.

Those are the two big films that look to come out (eventually) but there is a full MPAA Ratings Bulletin to find below:
