The Blue People are #1 but Only the Studios Win

It's been confirmed that Avatar is the fastest-selling Blu-Ray release in history with 2.7 million copies sold since its April 22 release.

The total stands at $130 million in sales combined with DVDs. That's a lot of cheddar for an inferior copy. I wonder how many of these people are going to buy the special edition or the 3-D edition when it comes out.

I loved Avatar - if any filled deserved to be watched exclusively on Blu-Ray, I would nominate this one - however, I abhor studios releasing a film only to re-release a better edition down the road. Unfortunately with the overwhelming success of this release, it will happen again and again and again...

If you only want Avatar for the movie and don't care about any features, then congratulations, you will be happy. However, if you want any making of, commentary, deleted scenes, even a trailer, you're going to be shelling out again. Considering an extended version of Avatar is supposedly coming this summer to IMAX, you may not even have the best version of the film.

This only winners here are the studios and whoever else gets a share of the DVD sales. As long as people keep supporting this blatant money-grab it will continue and you can't say I didn't try to warn you.
