We did it guys! We solved racism! All jokes aside, Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali are both terrific, but the writing is absolutely atrocious and I hate how the movie was shot - it reeks of cheapness. It's one of the most forgettable and bland best picture winner in recent memory. Yes, even worst than 'Crash'.

May have played things a bit safe, but one cannot deny the on-screen chemistry between Viggo Mortensen (who is also a master of eating and drinking anything and everything in the film) and Mahershala Ali (who deservedly won the Oscar for his role). It has humor without being depreciating and sheds light on a too-unknown virtuoso while revealing prejudices of the not-so-distant past that continue to reverberate to this day. It's safe, but still satisfying.

While this easy-going crowd-pleaser never ventures outside its familiar territory, it has a message that's hardly unwelcome.

On the surface, GREEN BOOK is undeniably textbook Oscar bait. Period setting? Check. Topical premise? Check. Some corny Hollywood schmaltz sprinkled amidst the hardships and darker edges. Check. And yet of all persons, it's one of the guys behind Shallow Hal who makes it work instead of induce eye-rolling and groaning. Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali are both good in their respective parts. Often times, their dialogue together is quite funny.
