It’s Not Pink, It’s Fuschia

This coming-of-age film feels very after-schoolish but it gets the point across about the hardship of coming out of the closet. Michael McMillian, who I first took notice opposite Amanda Bynes in “What I Like About You,” does a great job as a conflicted gay guy who is very angry with his father (Steve Fletcher) for preferring his brother, Lea Coco, over him when it comes to pretty much everything. The topics of sibling rivalry and the subordinate mother (Mo Quigley) were also tackled quite nicely. I enjoyed the fact that each character is flawed but very likeable in their own way (except probably the strict father). Each scene was done in a fun, light, quirky way so the lessons were not heavy-handed. Another thing that I found enchanting about the movie is that it stays away from sex …
