A 14-year-old Annie (Liana Liberato) gets a present from her parents during her birthday. She uses a laptop and phone to communicate with a stranger named Charlie (Chris Henry Coffey). He sexually assaults her after meeting a 35 year old man. Will Cameron (Owen) and Mrs. Cameron (Keener) are furious about the incident. Annie gets some counseling from Gail (Davis), who expresses her feelings for Charlie. Will gets deranged to the point of checking his daughters cellphone, reading the conversations during chat, beating up a father and acquiring a gun.

The performance of the cast were spectacular, especially Owen and Liberato. Very realistic scenes that could happen to any family. Score was decent but its direction was well planned. Had a few slow moments but the screenplay and acting makes up for it. Lines from the film: Gail - "We can't control what happens to us or our loved ones." "There's only so much we can do to protect ourselves, our children. The only thing we can do is be there for each other when we do fall down to pick each other up." Trust is a film about over protection, trusting people, communication and family which succeeds in conveying its message.
