The Muse (1999)

A-MUSE-D...
The Eye - wrote on 06/22/11

A zany, light-hearted comedy about fame, inspiration set in Hollywood with some of the famous, strange and wonderful characters who live there -- including writers, directors and their friends and family.

The cast is stellar:

Albert Brooks as Steven Phillips
Sharon Stone as Sarah Little
Andie MacDowell as Laura Phillips
Jeff Bridges as Jack Warrick
Mark Feuerstein as Josh Martin
Bradley Whitford as Hal
Steven Wright as Stan Spielberg

And includes several notables playing themselves, such as:

Jennifer Tilly as herself
Rob Reiner as himself
Wolfgang Puck as himself
James Cameron as himself
Martin Scorsese as himself
Lorenzo Lamas as himself

The story focuses on one funny but inspirationally blocked writer, Steven Philips, played by Albert Brooks who is married to Laura ( Andie MacDowell), whose friend and fellow writer Jack Warrick (Jeff Bridges) puts him in touch with a supposedly real, genuine, bona fide Muse, who is willing to take on artists of all kinds and trade them a few creative sparks in exchange for a lot of very expensive presents, lodgings and services... and there the hi-jinks begin.

The movie was fun and worth the time to watch, even if there was a bit of something about it that's been described as Hollywood indulging herself in endless fascination with the contents of her own wallet.

And, yes, we were a-Muse-d by it.
