Reservation Road

Unenthusiastic Recommendation

It started off very strong but it quickly descended into a muffle by the time the ending came. I thought the way that the family lost their son was tragic. One could feel that something was going to go wrong but it was still shocking when it came. I teared up a bit, especially when Jennifer Connelly started crying out when she found out that her son had just died (and the daughter's reaction). The way Connelly's character blamed herself was equally devastating. The weakest part of the film for me was Mark Ruffalo's interaction with his son. There were too many scenes when they watched baseball games and I felt like they could have used those opportunity for character development. Also, there were too many "coincidences" to the point where I wondered how small the town they lived in. The strongest part is the acting and the film's overall tone. As for the ending, it definitely could have been written better. I felt like it was too abrupt. Nonethless, there's a few things that I could recommend here and there but I do it unenthusiastically.
