Dancer in the Dark is a brilliant film in which a very young Leonardo DiCaprio plays a young woman who is trying to save money for her son's fast approaching eye opera--...Folks, I am now being told that it was not Leonardo DiCaprio, but that it was Bjork who was the leading lady. I feel less awkward being attracted to her now.

In all seriousness, I really enjoyed this film. Bjork's contribution to the film, which included an amazing soundtrack as well as a resonating performance, was what made the film. The supporting cast and story were at best, marginal, but they were held up by the strength of Bjork's, "in your face!", acting and Trier's decisions behind the camera. The hand held camera could be nauseating at times, but the grandiose, yet simple, musical numbers keep you hungry for more. I enjoyed it.
