The Collector (2009)

A Tense Thriller

I really enjoyed this movie. I found it to be a tense thriller. I adored Josh Stewart in the lead part. Arkin's a good guy, but his wife has debts to a loan shark. Arkin plans to burglarize the country home of his new employer. Granted, I don't believe it was made clear exactly why his wife has these debts, unless I missed something, but it sets up the whole reason for this really decent guy to become so desperate that he'd steal from these people he seems to rather like. Things go terribly wrong when he realizes someone else has already gotten into the house. The Collector is there torturing the family members after booby trapping the whole house. Why the collector does what he does isn't explained, but hey, lots of crimes go on that I just don't understand. I thought it was a tightly coiled thriller/horror. I think it's more of a thriller even though there are bloody scenes that are a bit torturous. The movie had good action and kept my attention the whole time. I won't give away the ending, but I found it satisfyingly twisted. I wasn't really surprised by it, but liked it. I'd recommend this movie.
