An anti-violence war picture infamously wounded by unwarranted editing resulted from studio meddling. "The Red Badge of Courage" is fine in its current state, but the best possible version, which might have been to the American Civil War what "All Quiet on the Western Front" is to WWI, has been tragically lost to time.
