Arcade Fire play their music in Haiti during Kanaval/Carnival festival. This was my first exposure to this cultural event. Had similar feelings to the Day of the Dead in Mexico and Mardi Gras. It turns out that various visually interesting happenings of the festival receive almost equal screen time as the band. Running behind almost all of this collage is one or another of Arcade Fire's tracks, sometimes solo vox, sometimes a minimal duet, sometimes the full live recording. If you are a fan of Arcade Fire there is plenty here to enjoy, though we learn little about the members of this group. Be sure you do not begin with any expectations of traditional narrative. The Reflektor Tapes present a collection of aural and visual vignettes, and those few linguistic reflections which Win Butler and Régine Chassagne offer are a stylishly thin frame around the Joseph's pleasing splashes of color.
