Opportunity Knocks surprised me in a pleasant way. I was expecting Dana Carvey's first movie to be a poor extension of his Saturday Night Live routines but actually it is was quite funny and heart warming.
The story of a low life con artist who dreams of a normal life, it tells of Eddie who accidentally assumes the identify of a man named Jonathon. Jonathon is supposed to be house-sitting for his friend David, but just as Eddie and partner break in to the house, they learn via an answer machine that Jonathon isn't going to make it and the house will be unattended. Then the chaos starts.
With David's family believing that Eddie is Jonathon, Eddie has to try and assume the identity of a stranger so that he can keep avoiding a loan shark that is on his tail. This leads to a whole series of funny scenes where Eddie has to pretend that he is a Harvard educated executive.
The cast work very well together and there is great chemistry between lead actors Dana Carvey and Julia Campbell. The story has a many story lines running at once and successfully manages to keep everything neat and easy to understand.
This is great movie to just chill out and watch without having to concentrate! Definitely worth a viewing.
