Walking Tall (2004)

Carrying a big stick ... and kicking ass!

When Chris Vaughn returns to his small hometown after leaving the army, he is surprised to find to find it changed for the worse. The lumber mill where his father worked and where he wanted to realize a childhood dream of working there has been closed and replaced by a seedy casino and strip club, owned by his boyhood friend Jay Hamilton (Neal McDonough) and is now the main source of revenue for the town. During his first visit he finds his ex-girlfriend Ashley Scott stripping, drugs being sold under the table and a dealer cheating with a loaded dice.

Upon getting beat up by Hamilton's casino security goons, Chris decides to stay away – until, his nephew (Khleo Thomas) is taken to hospital after using crystal meth obtained from the casino. After storming the casino with a four-foot-long 2-by-4, he is taken to court by the law who are in the pocket of Hamilton but surprisingly he wins the case, runs for the position of a sheriff and takes it upon himself to clean the town up. The Rock is quite good as the only one willing to fight back. He's nicely paired with "Jackass" Johnny Knoxville as his ex con friend who becomes his scruffy deputy and Neal McDonough plays the sleazy villain with appropriate toughness.
