In the future, if anyone asks what kind of movies they made during the 2020s pandemic - point to The Guilty - which is essentially just Jake Gyllenhaal talking on the phone for a good 90 minutes. Yes, there are some other talented "voices" here - Paul Dano, Ethan Hawke, Riley Keough and Peter Sarsgaard - but it's Gyllenhaal who carries the film. They managed to throw in pretty good twist too and it manages a decent amount of tension throughout. I still won't say it's the most exciting film ever, but it is a solid - and quick - morsel.

This thriller tries to flesh out its thin plot with some ramatic heft from Jake Gyllenhaal. He really gives it his all with his performance. But it does kind of drag.
