New DVD and Blu-Ray Releases to Crave This Week: Get Social but Watch Out for Piranha

While the quantity may be down this week, the quality makes up for it.

1) If you haven't seen The Social Network yet, I implore you to buy, rent or steal this film. I consider it the best film of 2010 and one of the more relevant films to be released in years. Even if you don't have any idea what Facebook is, or you hate the site, it's still a worthwhile film just from an acting and directing standpoint.

2) While you won't find any high class in Piranha, you will find plenty of blood and comedy in this throwback to B-movie fun. Good for a rental, anyway.

3) If you need something to tide the kids over for an hour or so, Alpha & Omega should fill that role quite nicely. It may not hold a candle to Toy Story 3 or Despicable Me, but it will probably keep the young ones quiet for at least a little while.

On the Blu-Ray front you have plenty of great films to choose from this week. Leading the pack is Once Upon a Time in America - provided you have the nearly 4 hours to watch Sergio Leone's uncut classic. Robert De Niro makes a second appearance with Raging Bull. While this has been on Blu-Ray before, this 30th Anniversary Edition promises more features. Two Criterion films are also getting the Blu-Ray treatment: the sci-fi film Robinson Crusoe on Mars and French classic about the underground WWII resistance Army of Shadows. If you like your features extra meaty, and your picture pristine, those are the two to go with.

All the new release information can be found at FilmCrave New DVD Releases and FilmCrave New Blu-Ray Releases, so check them out today.
