You Were Never Really Here and More in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin

By Chris Kavan - 11/29/17 at 11:03 AM CT

I thought the MPAA Ratings Boards would have recovered from that Thanksgiving period, but apparently they ate a little too much. This week's bulletin is not just light - I have pretty much nothing to talk about. Even the one film worth mentioning is a stretch - and the rest, well, as someone wise once said if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. In any case, a whopping five movies are getting their ratings due, and a single limited release is the only thing worth mentioning. I can only hope this is a blip on the radar and not a trend.

So, what is that one movie worth mentioning? That would be You Were Never Really Here. The versatile and kind of crazy Joaquin Phoenix stars as an a versatile and kind of crazy fixer who is on the trail of a missing teen (Ekaterina Samsonov), who has a series of skills to mete out his own brand of justice. Director Lynne Ramsay is not one to shy away from heavy subjects, having helmed the equally dark We Need to Talk About Kevin. Pairing her with Phoenix means this is going to be a tough film to watch, but also means it will be well worth your time. Some have proclaimed this a modern-day version of Taxi Driver, and it's hard not to see echoes of Travis Bickle in Phoenix's character. I don't know if it will ever go wide, but at least it's worth talking about. Rated R for strong violence, disturbing and grisly images, language and brief nudity.

That's all you get, and, frankly, all that's really worth mentioning. But if you're a glutton for punishment, take a gander at the full MPAA Ratings Bulletin below:

FAST COLOR

Rated PG-13 for a scene of violence and brief strong language.

HONEY: RISE UP AND DANCE

SAVING FAITH

WE ARE STRONGER
