New Movies to Crave: On The Town with the Devil - Easy, Eh?

After a few rather blah weeks, at least the box office is finally offering some much-needed variety to spice things up.

1) No doubt with Oscars on the mind, Ben Affleck's The Town looks to elevate the crime / drama to new levels. Hey, if that creepy poster with a nun masks is any indication, it should b a treat. Affleck has been a quiet for awhile, so hopefully this spells a triumphant return. With support from Jeremy Renner, Blake Lively, Chris Cooper and more, we'll see if it can come anywhere close to the like of The Departed.

2) The teen comedy will give it one more try as Emma Stone plays good girl gone bad (well, fake bad) in Easy A. This is being compared to Mean Girls in tone, which is not a bad thing as that is one of the few enjoyable original teen comedies to come out recently, and we'll see how Stone can carry a film. I've liked her in most of her films from Superbad to Zombieland so I wish her the best.

3) Some might question to heavy use of the name M. Night Shyamalan in connection with Devil as The Last Airbender didn't really impress (though it has made more money than I would have thought) - but he's been splashed all over the trailers and commercials. Still, a group of people trapped in a confined space with the prince of darkness? Should be interesting - plus I hear the snozberries taste like snozberries (if you don't get the Supertroopers reference, go watch it now).

4) Finally, for the younger set, the animated Alpha and Omega might ease the pain of having to go back to school. It's your basic meet-cute love story coming from two different worlds (see also Lady and the Tramp, Happy Feet, etc.) but this time with wolves. The voice talent looks promising - including one of the last performances from Dennis Hopper - but I can't help feeling like this should have been released earlier and the fall release will only hurt its chances.

So, a lot to choose from for once and maybe the box office can shake off its own case of the blahs. For information on all the movies coming out, visit the FilmCrave New Movie Releases page.
