Ophelia tries to revise the classic play from the perspective of Hamlet's ill fated lover. It starts out interestingly enough which makes the movie all the more disappointing. Most of the cast works as an idea on paper. Clive Owen and Naomi Watts make sense as Claudius and Gertrude. Owen especially relishes chewing the scenery. George MacKay is a surprisingly good Hamlet. Daisy Ridley should be interesting as Ophelia but sadly she's not. She's very reserved to the other characters and is more of a bystander until the second half. The movie looks good and the script actually does try to ape the style of the Bard himself. Some may find its revisionist take interesting. I did not.

"Ophelia" is as lavished as any reworking of Shakespeare can be, but it's so dry, flat, and unremarkable that there's little to make it stand out from any other similar productions.
