Ah 1960s crime in all its glory and glamour!

Roger Ebert summed this movie up as being "the most under-plotted, underwritten, and over-photographed movie of the year" and he might be right. But that seems to have been the point. Much of what happens in 'The Thomas Crown Affair' is told through body language and stylish visuals. When it uses this to its advantage, it's good fun that's borderline camp but without being embarrassing. For example, in place of a sex scene we have Faye Dunaway and Steve McQueen instead play chess whilst making flirtatious gestures with their chess pieces. It's surprisingly effective and undeniably original. But Ebert was right to call out its terribly thin script which is not difficult to distinguish from similar films aside from its glamorous style and the chemistry between McQueen and Dunaway (who's …
