Overall Rating: 2.6 out of 4 stars
Language: English
Genre: Western
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Edwin Sherin
Actors: Burt Lancaster, Susan Clark, Frank Silvera, Jon Cypher, Richard Jordan, Hector Elizondo
Plot: Burt Lancaster made his best movies in the westerns of his later career. This is one of them. As a stoic veteran of the Apache wars, he plays a Mexican lawman (Valdez) who mistakenly kills a black man held under siege by the heavies of a corrupt rancher. When he discovers his error he tries to get $100 from the rancher to help the dead man's Indian wife. The story follows the honorable Valdez fight the long odds in his attempt to get the rancher to pay up. The film has the tone of a spaghetti western (it was filmed in Spain) but the plot has more than a few surprises. Look for the early work of some actors who became much more visible over the years.
