New Movies to Crave: Exorcise Daily, Takers and Avatar... Take Two

I won't complain about the lack of excitement this week - I'll leave that to the professionals. I figure it's going to be a little more quiet on the movie front, at least until the holidays roll around. Still, depending on your tastes, you might still find some films to suit you.

1) The Last Exorcism - The documentary approach to horror films can be hit or miss. Yet the fact that Eli Roth is attached makes me have decent hopes for this film. Plus the way that girl bends and twists? That's scary enough for me. Can't say if this is good theater film or better left for DVD, but I have a feeling it will be entertaining.

2) Takers - This film has been pushed back so many times, I was beginning to wonder if it would ever come out. It has some big names, but to me it looks like another standard action / crime / drama hybrid. It can try to be hyped as much as possible, but as far as heist films go, it doesn't like it takes many chances.

3) Avatar: Special Edition - Yes, it seems like cheap money-grab to me too, but you know people will go see it again for, what? an extra 10-15 minutes of added footage. Granted, this is the only great 3D film I've seen, and if you didn't see it in 3D, I highly encourage viewing it. However, if you've already seen it (maybe multiple times even), I don't see the point unless you really, really REALLY feel the need to watch it on the big screen again... don't feed the monster.

And that's it - a pretty slow week all around. Expect a few more in the week ahead - though I'm totally looking forward to Machete next week. Angry Mexicans unite!
