The Incredible Journey

The Incredible Journey is a fun, family-oriented movie.  Well worth seeing, if one can get hold of the DVD version of the film.

One Day in September

Last post on 07/08/12 at 11:38 AM CT by mpol

One Day in September is a very good documentary about the massacre of the 11 Israeli athletes by Black September/PLO terrorists at the  1972 Olympics, in Munich.  It's a rather sad, but necessary documentary, that cries for an immediate politically-based, peaceful solution to the decades-old Israeli-Palestinian debacle in the form of a two-state solution.   The story describing one of the Palestinians who helped sponsor this act against the Israeli Athletes at Munich and …

Two of Us, The ( vieil homme et l'enfant, Le )

Last post on 07/08/12 at 11:05 AM CT by mpol

I loved The Two of Us, because it showed that there was humanity to be had despite all the  hostilities and the harshness that prevailed at the time of WWII.

Georgy Girl (1966)

Last post on 07/08/12 at 11:04 AM CT by mpol

I saw Georgy Girl when it first came out, in the movie theatres, and, since I was a teenager in high school when I saw it, I was able to identify with the awkwardness and angst of adolescence, especially due to not having the kind of social life that I thought that most teens had.  It was an exuberant and yet sad movie at the same time.

West Side Story (1961)

Last post on 07/08/12 at 10:28 AM CT by mpol

West Side Story, imo, is a film that I never get tired of watching over and over again, whether it be on a great big, wide screen, in a real movie theatre, with the lights down low, or on television.  Many people with elaborate, expensive home-theatre systems claim, however, that the experience of watching a great classic film such as West Side Story on such an elaborate home entertainment system is just like seeing it in a real movie theatre.  I could not disagree more with that …

Prometheus (2012)

I  can't believe you guys liked this movie.  It was such a failure, and it shrinks in my mind even more as time passes.

Brave (2012)

Last post on 06/24/12 at 03:07 PM CT by LeeAnn M.

My five year old son, who hates movie theaters and will wait patiently for the DVD, announced yesterday that he really wanted to see Brave in the theater. He loved it!  He is already asking if he can see it again. I imagine our household of seven will help boost the intake numbers for the opening weekend. Brave managed to convince me to not hold a grudge against Pixar for their Cars 2 disaster. For our family, Brave was entertaining for both kids and adults.

I think Foxy Brown is considered iconic.

I was an extra in this movie, it to bad extras don't get any credit or at least have their names on the screen

Snow White and the Huntsman

Last post on 06/07/12 at 02:22 AM CT by Daniel

I agree, I don't think it was awful. Charliza Theron tried her damnedest to keep it afloat and Bob Hoskins actually made me care for at least a little bit. The visuals were all very nice as well.

Dragon Eyes

If is shows up on Netflix, I'm still totally going to watch it just to see how terrible it actually turns out to be.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation

But I heard they're adding even more Channing Tatum - but the 3D aspect, I believe, is just an excuse for them thinking it just won't hold up against the competition. My interest was already pretty low to begin with, so pushing it that far back doesn't really make things any worse for me, anyway.

Men in Black 3

Last post on 05/26/12 at 01:04 PM CT by Chris Kavan

Early reviews have been kind an it looks like MIB III should bring about $75 million over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. And yes, The Avengers will finally fall to second place. I'll probably end up watching this either Sunday or Monday - look for my review.

Battleship

Only 25 Million?  Ouch...  That's pretty underwhelming for a BIG summer action movie.  Though, I agree about Kitsch.  Maybe 'Savages' will shine a better light for him.

Opened to mostly lackluster reviews, but I was surprised at how much this movie grew on me as it went along.

The Sitter

Atrocious

She doesnt have schizophrenic episodes if there is another personality. she has DID or Dissasociative Identity Dissorder. Schizophrenia is a condition where someone may feel that they are the target of an attack from their peers or family and may feel that people spy on them as well as plan to kill them because they are on to something. in this case "mum" acted to normal to have Schizophrenia she obviously would have had DID since she turned into a compleatly different person. But she didnt …

The Hunger Games

Last post on 03/29/12 at 12:35 PM CT by Chris Kavan

Any guesses for final total gross? I'm thinking $400 million isn't out of the question. It will be interesting to see what kind of hold it has this second weekend - I don't think either Mirror, Mirror or Wrath of the Titans will be able to top it, in fact, it has a good shot for maybe three weeks coming up. My review may not be as glowing as some, but I still recommend watching it if you haven't already. My guess is is will easily wind up in the top 5 films of the year, and has a shot at …

The Host (2013)

Last post on 03/23/12 at 04:22 PM CT by Chris Kavan

Something tells me as soon as Twilight was a hit, everything Stephanie Meyer's was involved in was optioned. Can't say the subject matter interests me a whole lot, but Saoirse Ronan has much more talent than Kristen Stewart, so at least casting wise they're off to a good start.

Dark Shadows

I don't know much about it. I know that Burton is behind it but I have lost confidence in him as of late.
