Funny People review

George Simmons (Adam Sandler) is a selfish rich comedian actor who has acute myeloid leukemia. Ira Wright (Seth Rogen) was asked by George to write for his material. Laura (Leslie Mann), an ex-fiancé of George, decides to see him again and opens up about her marriage. Some background characters scenes were too long which made the film somewhat lengthy. Screenplay was good with lines: George – “It kind of sucks being old, so just enjoy this time. Time slips away. I promise you. I had a dinner like this twenty years ago with guys that just lost touch with each other. I never talk to them anymore. Some of them are dead. Things slip away. If you love somebody, don’t let them slip away.” and “I was young and stupid.” Clarke – “Nobody’s who’s married is happy, you …

I saw this movie tonight not knowing what to expect. It's gotten such mixed reviews. I have heard it's sad and dark and not at all like Apatow's other films, which I love. A lot of people don't like it because of this, but I must saw, I thought it was lovely. It was as if the characters were playing themselves (hopefully not Adam Sandler--his character was a real asshole). It was a glimpse into the world of comedians and struggling comedians. It was heart-breaking, uncomfortable at times, and also pretty funny. I love me some dysfunctional films, so I really liked it. It was well-acted (Sandler didn't bug me a bit, which is quite a feat). Seth Rogen was understated and not too Seth Rogen. The supporting cast was hilarious (Jonah Hill, Jason Schwartzman, Aziz Ansari, the amazing newcomer …

Adam Sandler, Strike One!

Let's take out the "Funny" in the title and just call it "People". Because, honestly, I didn't find it all that funny. First problem with the movie: The Length. Did they have to take two and a half hours to tell us the story of this comedian with relationship problems? Second problem: Waiting half the movie to find out something we already knew. About halfway through the movie we find out that he is not going to die. Even though, anyone who watched the trailer would already know that. Third problem: Leslie Mann. She just really pissed me off in this movie. So overall I thought this movie was too long and the funniest scenes were the parts when the actors were doing stand-up.

My suggestion: If you want to spend two and a half hours on a movie, watch "The Departed".

Forgettable. Mildly funny at times but nothing standout. Good for a one time entertainment but nothing new, nothing particularly memorable. Adam Sandler however, while he was able to break out of his typecasted physical comedy role of his youth, then on to the young romantic comedy roles, then on to the more adult father roles has yet again broken his mold and for the first time playing a character you end up loathing more and more as the movie goes on. This just might be the best acting he's ever done because it was so off par with everthing else he has really taken on it's clear to see why he chose a project like this, one where he was able to maintain his roots while still doing something completely new for him. The Seth Rogen character is yet again just Seth Rogen thrown in a …

Sandler Makes It Happen Once Again

This is just the type of comedy I like, and that is why I love Adam Sandler. Unlike certain actors who have to resort to ridiculous slapstick humor and farce pretty much all the time (cough cough Ben Stiller....although I could have killed Sandler for that Zohan thing he did) Sandler knows how the to captures the art of subtle, dry humor...or just saying things that are plain funny. He has truly matured as an actor from the days of Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill are always consistently funny (especially Jonah) and that stays true for this film. The drama also hits home in Funny People. The idea of these "funny people" being stricken with all of these issues was definitely interesting to watch. I think this was a really good movie. People need to be more open …

Sandler is back!

Funny people is a definite change of pace compared to Apatow's past 2 films. Many people will tell you they are disappointed and many people will tell you it was not as funny as it should have been. Well, it is not as funny as his other movies, but that is not a bad thing.

Sandler proves that he is still one of the funniest men in the world and it is a sure disappointment to see that the last 5 movies he has done (save Punch Drunk Love) have all been pretty bad and directed at children (or teen comedy). He is the FUNNIEST guy I have ever seen. In this movie, he proves it. He shows us yet again that not only can he be silly funny, but he can act, and act really well. Rogen on the other hand, is a big let down, for me. He wasn't that funny nor did he do that good of job acting. …

I Don't Know How to Fight - I'm a Comedian

The newest film in the line by writer/director Judd Apatow leaves audiences with mixed emotions, filling the gaps between humor and tragedy. This film was brilliantly written, superbly acted, wonderfully crafted, and poorly advertised.
The film was publicized as the newest comedy, but "dramedy" would be more accurate, as the situations between all the characters are at the heart, complex. There is plenty of comedy, however, letting Adam Sandler, Jonah Hill, and Seth Rogan be themselves, hysterical. But at the very center of this film is a battle for happiness when there has been nothing but misery.
Miserable characters, though funny, are still miserable. How can someone experiencing pain make others laugh? This film explores questions such as those.
A great film, despite what …

Funny People is to comedians what Boiler Room, Madmen, and Glenn Gary Glenn Ross is to Salesmen.
Welcome to the lonesome, cruel, and sometimes friendless world of stand-up comedy where singles and couples alike sit with arms crossed a midst a dim-lit, smoke filled room waiting to laugh AT you, not with you.
I love a good comedy. I love to laugh as much as the next movie lover, but a lot of …
