This was truly a great film. It has two of my favorite actors who have some of the best performances of their career. This is a must-see for comedy fans as it is a look into the depressing side of being a star comedian and the plight of a aspiring one. |

Not as laugh-out-loud funny as previous Apatow films, but still, Funny People has a strong thematic core and that transcends the laughs. Adam Sandler turns in an understated performance, his best since Punch-Drunk Love, and the film doesn't shy away from a real discussion of marriage and mortality. |

Funny People review |

George Simmons (Adam Sandler) is a selfish rich comedian actor who has acute myeloid leukemia. Ira Wright (Seth Rogen) was asked by George to write for his material. Laura (Leslie Mann), an ex-fiancé of George, decides to see him again and opens up about her marriage. Some background characters scenes were too long which made the film somewhat lengthy. Screenplay was good with lines: George – “It kind of sucks being old, so just enjoy this time. Time slips away. I promise you. I had a dinner like this twenty years ago with guys that just lost touch with each other. I never talk to them anymore. Some of them are dead. Things slip away. If you love somebody, don’t let them slip away.” and “I was young and stupid.” Clarke – “Nobody’s who’s married is happy, you idiot.” and “we have to ... |

I saw this movie tonight not knowing what to expect. It's gotten such mixed reviews. I have heard it's sad and dark and not at all like Apatow's other films, which I love. A lot of people don't like it because of this, but I must saw, I thought it was lovely. It was as if the characters were playing themselves (hopefully not Adam Sandler--his character was a real asshole). It was a glimpse into the world of comedians and struggling comedians. It was heart-breaking, uncomfortable at times, and also pretty funny. I love me some dysfunctional films, so I really liked it. It was well-acted (Sandler didn't bug me a bit, which is quite a feat). Seth Rogen was understated and not too Seth Rogen. The supporting cast was hilarious (Jonah Hill, Jason Schwartzman, Aziz Ansari, the amazing newcomer A... |

It's a good movie, but it has a more serious tone than other comedies like say the Hangover. It's also a bit long but overall it's worthwhile. |

Actually the trailer sucks. I would bet the movie is good though. I will admit that I am done with Sandler and haven't seen anything from him since 50 first dates, which blew. |

This looks good, but I don't think it will even come close to Knocked Up,which seemed to set the bar for most comedies in the past few year. We'll see come July. I'll definatley be seeing this. |
