X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Weapon X was co-opted by every American War
2/4 stars
After being slammed in pre-release reviews, Wolverine, it appears, is not invulnerable. But is the movie really as bad as they say?
Compared to X-men movies, yes, Wolverine is sub-par. But that's setting the bar pretty high. On the full spectrum of comic book movies, Wolverine is just mediocre.
So what's the problem? Bad direction and a worse script. Action with too many bullets and not enough mutant abilities. Plot holes and a politics of subversion that tries to live up to the standards of the trilogy but just doesn't make sense.
In the end, the movie is a bit confusing for initiates and too . . . empty for the hardcore fans. Marvel would be wise to just forget about this one and try making it again -- it worked for the Hulk!
