Once again Costner uses the Hollywood establishment to act out his childish fantasies and runs around the woods in tights in a laughable po-faced pantomime. Rubbish. |

This is an overly melodramatic and sappy version of the Robin Hood tale. It doesn't help that Kevin Costner displays an unconvincing English accent throughout the film and that the movie boasts a modern, Bryan Adams-infused soundtrack, sort of like a medieval Young Guns, but not as fun. |

Robin of Locksley (Costner) encounters and saves Azeem (Freeman). Sheriff of Nottingham (Rickman) rules England. The Sheriff proposes to Marian while Robin is being hunted. A wonderful cast yet the screenplay doesn't bring anything new to the plate. Had a few likable action scenes but its pace was just to dull. Best performances are from Freeman and Rickman. This murky and violent version of Robin Hood. |

Dang, no wonder I like cheesy movies to some extent. With somewhat bad acting on the front of Costner and Mastrantonio, this film definitely gets the Oscar for one of the cheesiest films in the early 90s. What makes this a somewhat decent movie is Alan Rickman with comic relief, and Morgan Freeman kicking butt. Some scenes were definently more strong than others. Then again, all movies have scenes like that.
Basically, if you want to laugh at a film from the early 90s, this is a good one. |

Watching Morgan Freeman as a lunging, intimidating one man Muslim wrecking crew is priceless! Then there's Alan Rickman playing a sex-crazed-pre-Tony-Stark Sheriff! It's just too bad Costner sports an American accent, grows a mullet, and delivers every scene like he's blazed out of his mind on Pineapple Express, which pushes the above two guilty pleasures outta the way.
Pure intentional schlok with a Bryan Adams score could have been hilarious, but not when it's unintentional and the actors are trying not to laugh as they're being thrown by a catapult over castle walls. I was surprised when Rick Astley's music videos didn't start playing halfway through it. I mean, again, someone actually took this seriously! |
