Butch is the most complex movie character in recent memory. It definitely is a movie to wrap your mind around and search for the deeper meaning. After you watch, rewind to the first minute of the movie.

A Perfect World review

A cat and mouse crime drama which touches on the subjects of an imperfect world, fatherhood, trust, respecting women, crime and bad parenting. Convicts Robert "Butch" Haynes (Kevin Costner) and Jerry Pugh (Keith Szarabajka) was able to escape prison and abduct a kid named Phillip Perry (T.J. Lowther). Ranger Red Garnett (Clint Eastwood) is on a hunt for Haynes and Pugh. Screenplay was provocative with lines: "This is the present Phillip, Enjoy while it lasts." "Seek foolish destiny." "Never underestimate the common man Phillip." "You gotta earn that." and Haynes instructing to father to say he loves his kid "Say it...it don't cost nothing." - Butch "In a perfect world things like this wouldn't happen" - Sally Gerber (Laura Dern). Direction and cinematography were wonderful. The sound...

"A Perfect World" by Yojimbo

An escaped convict takes an 8 year old boy hostage and is pursued in the resulting manhunt by a motley assortment of lawmen headed by pragmatic good ol' boy Clint Eastwood. The fact that the central characters of this film are a desperate criminal and an 8 year old Jehovah's witness (not to mention Costner's presence) would probably provoke a groan from more cynical cinephiles expecting a saccharine drenched schmaltz-fest about "learning from each other" and "growing as a person". And they'd be right in some respects as that pretty much is what the film is all about, but thanks to Eastwood's sensitive direction it manages to sidestep cloying sentimentality and the result is an endearing road movie cum western with a streak of gentle humour. The weak link is probably Kevin Costner and if i...
