A Perfect World review

A cat and mouse crime drama which touches on the subjects of an imperfect world, fatherhood, trust, respecting women, crime and bad parenting. Convicts Robert "Butch" Haynes (Kevin Costner) and Jerry Pugh (Keith Szarabajka) was able to escape prison and abduct a kid named Phillip Perry (T.J. Lowther). Ranger Red Garnett (Clint Eastwood) is on a hunt for Haynes and Pugh. Screenplay was provocative with lines: "This is the present Phillip, Enjoy while it lasts." "Seek foolish destiny." "Never underestimate the common man Phillip." "You gotta earn that." and Haynes instructing to father to say he loves his kid "Say it...it don't cost nothing." - Butch "In a perfect world things like this wouldn't happen" - Sally Gerber (Laura Dern). Direction and cinematography were wonderful. The soundtrack was not that a huge factor and lacks the certain depth for Red’s character to make it likable. Costner was impressive here and the young Lowther was very convincing. Overall, A Perfect World is an underrated gem worth viewing for its performances, plot and deeper meanings. Definitely one of the highlights of the legendary Clint Eastwood.
