Carrey handles the drama with ease and the movie itself is decent, but it's long runtime feels undeniably slow and it tires to hard to be sentimental.

From what I can remember of it, it's a good movie with a fantastic anti-McCarthyism theme to it.

a sweet movie that makes me miss the theater that I went to as a kid (they tore it down). Seeing Bruce Campbell in the movie that Jim Carrey's character wrote, is worth giving this at least one viewing.

A really terrible film. Really, how could it have gone so wrong? I would recommend The Front if you're looking for better films about the blacklisting period, the McCarthy Era.

I would have thought Frank Darabont (or Shawshank Redemption fame) would be perfect for a Frank Capra-esque film. This films wants to be earnest and a throwback to older films, but it feels too sentimental and moves too slow.

Appleton was accused of communism for having attended a meeting that he was dragged to by his girlfriend when he was in college. Before he was supposed to be questioned by congress about his involvement in a communist organization, he is in a car accident in which he nearly drowns. When he revives he doesn't remember who he is, and he is found by a man walking on the beach who believes that Appleton is his son that left to fight in World War II and never returned.
