Went into it with the smallest of expectations and was surprised to find a watchable movie. Will not re-watch but it was worth the first. |

I had higher hopes but the battleship blasted my hopes away.... Loots of macho types who have just one mission: be the best and better than all the others. The battle between the earth ships and the alien vessels is more than unrealistic..... unbelievable they won.... |

You Sunk My Faith In Movie Making |

Wow this movie was every bit the epic fail I thought it would be. The story, the dialog, the acting, the directing, the pure idea that this could be a good movie all horrible. The special effects were ok but that can hardly save a movie this bad. I found my self often wondering how this movie even got made. It makes me worry about the people who make the decision about what movies get made. I think I would like to try and sell them a bridge i have, or a movie about a bridge I have.
I can't even begin to explain all the horrible things that happen in this movie so here are a few highlights.

Battleship review |

A mix of Independence Day premise, alien suits similar to Ironman/StarWars, Hunt for Red October moments and Titanic like sequences. Dialogue was horrendous/cheesy and some scenes were just baffling (the veterans suddenly comes out and emulates a scene from Armaggedon, the Japanese captain predicted when to hit after missing twice, how the aliens were easily beaten and that sensors detect concrete structures as threats, how the leads survive a sinking ship, etc. The North Koreans and Chinese were subtly mentioned negatively and the patriotism was too overwhelming. No hints or explanations of the aliens real intent and shows how humans are violent intead of approaching them peacefully. Too much patriotism for my liking!! |

Ever play the Hasbro game Battleship? With all the little white and red pegs that show hits and misses on a sea of blue that resembles a radar screen? Well believe it or not this is all incorporated into 'Battleship The Movie' . Cliched patriotic cheese and without spoiling the ending.. Un bearable US patriotic cheese!! I will give the film it's dues however as it had it's moments, where even i was like ok that was cool if only the rest of the film could've been as good we would have a real contender for the best movie of 2012 list. Not a bad cast i might say with Taylor Kitsch playing our cheif hero in this a much better performance then when he portrayed John Carter in that earlier dreadful film.

Only 25 Million? Ouch... That's pretty underwhelming for a BIG summer action movie. Though, I agree about Kitsch. Maybe 'Savages' will shine a better light for him. |

Well - you were half right on the total. Battleship made just a bit over $25 million. Maybe Taylor Kitsch is just cursed? Actually, he wasn't bad at all (not in John Carter, either) - I feel bad for the guy - neither movie has really been his fault. Here's hoping the upcoming Savages turns out a bit better for him.
The film itself actually wasn't as bad as I was expecting (I'll have my review up Monday). Nothing to write home about, but solid entertainment - much better than a film about aliens invading Hawaii that's based on a board game sound like. I'll see The Avengers for a second time this week as well - and believe me, I am quite looking forward to it. |

I just can't find any interest in Battleship. I don't seem to have a want to watch any film this month besides Avengers (which I've seen twice now). I think Avengers will stay at the top of the box-office for a third week and go on to break more money making records. Though, I bet Battleship makes it past 50 Million by Sunday. |

I myself expected more from Dark Shadows - I don't know, the look of the film and characters was good, but if they were going for humor, they failed as I can count only a few times I really thought the jokes worked. It wasn't terrible, but I found it a bit bland.
Seeing Battleship tomorrow - I still have my reservations, but I'll try to have as much fun as possible. |

I may be wrong about this one, but I really don't think Battleship will do well outside of teenagers. I think you are right about this being on the same level as Transformers. I just might see The Avengers again this coming weekend. The second time might be even better on the IMAX screen. I saw Dark Shadows this past weekend. It was not too bad. Only the last 30 minutes of the movie fell flat. |
