A decent revenge drama with Jodie Foster in full-on Ripley mode. It wants to spark a debate about violence and justice, but it's mainly a showcase of Foster kicking butt and looking cold. A good effort that falls short. |

Hey, Bruce Wayne, meet Bernie Goetz. I felt like I was watching Batman Gon' Psycho. Foster's character's name is Erica Bain for a reason--she should be Poison Ivy's maniacal assistant. Jodie foster and her fiancee are brutally attacked in a tunnel in Central Park and the fiancee ends up dying. In response she buys and gun and tries to execute every bad guy in New York. She should go join the WatchMen. This movie tries to create a moral dilemma by creating this vigilante who takes justice into her own hands, but really turns out to be a loose cannon who should be locked away forever. Her actions were laughable and ridiculous. The only "justified" killing was the first one in the convenient store. Had she not shot that man she probably would have gotten shot. Um, yeah, why did I get this? Jodie Foster was alright. The attack was brutal, but what were they doing at the park (in the dark)? Kind of stupid. They could have at least brought mace along if they were going to be so stupid. However, not altogether worthless. |

The Brave One |

Jodie Foster never lets me down. I thought this film was gripping because it blurs the line between good and evil. The best scenes present themselves when nothing is going on, when everything is silent and we observe Jodie Foster's character cope with the death of her lover. I say kudos to the director for showing us awkward camera angles whenever Foster is in pain, in trouble, and suffering. I thought the ending was justified and it elevated the movie to a new level because it tried to do something different than other revenge movies out there. Although Foster doesn't release too many movies, her repertoire is amazing because each one is as delicious as this piece of art. |
