An average thriller featuring an undeniably cool vehicle which really isn't featured that much. It takes 30 minutes for the audience to even glimpse the cutting edge crime-fighting helicopter nicknamed Blue Thunder and it takes another 30 minutes for the machine to factor into the thin plot. Roy Scheider does his best as the laconic everyman hero and Malcolm McDowell is a fun villain as always. The action scenes are tense and exciting examples of what films could accomplish before CGI.
