Dennis Doyle (Simon Pegg) abandons his own wedding. Libby (Thandie Newton), Doyle's ex fiance, goes out with Whit (Hank Azaria). Dennis tries to impress her by joining the Nike River Marathon in London. He has 2 coaches to train him, Gordon (Dylan Moran) and Mr. Ghoshdastidar (Harish Patel. Parts of the film had some really coy moments and effective humor. Simon Pegg can really carry his own and the director shows potential The film gets better from beginning to end. Run Fatboy Run has a lot of heart and is a decent comedy that can inspire in a way.

Although I wouldn't put it quite on the same level as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz, I still enjoyed Run Fatboy Run. Simon Pegg is still a draw, even if the story is a bit cliched. A general comedy that will please most, but not overwhelm.

Commitment-phobe Dennis Doyle, who left his pregnant girlfriend at the altar enters a marathon in an attempt to prove that he has changed and win her back. Simon Pegg proves to be the latest comedy casualty to sacrifice his credibility to stick his snout in the Hollywood trough, and stars in yet another in a long line of interchangable British rom-coms. In fact it looked as if he was only cast because he was cheaper than Hugh Grant because his character and performance are nearly identical to that of Grant in About A Boy, and the script is just a rehash of the same tired old formula of Nick Hornby-style "Bridget Jones' Diary pour l'homme". It's just another "guy who refuses to grow up is threatened by handsome, rich new contender for his love's affections grows as a person while the …

Somewhat Disappointing

I expected this movie to be charming and silly, but I didn’t expect it to be so light. I thought the best part of the movie was the irony in the conversations and situations; the worst part, though, was the forceful slapstick that either hits or misses. Still, I did like the energy that the film had. Simon Pegg was funny as usual, especially the scene where he tries to run in short shorts for barely twenty feet. He has great comedic timing and he reminded me of why I loved “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz.” I also really liked Thandie Newton as Pegg’s ex-fiancée but I think the filmmakers could have delved into her character a little more. She was a bit one-dimensional because she was always in scenes where she’s portrayed as still hung up about being left at the altar. …

Run, don't walk, to see this one

What a surprise! "Run Fatboy Run" is a true gem. I'd compare it in tone to another sleeper from this summer, "The Rocker". Both are comedies with just the right mix of raunchiness and sweetness; neither is too gross nor too sappy.

I am now eager to investigate other projects in which Simon Pegg has been involved. I don't think about him being in the realm of other movie "stars", but I sure have liked "Shaun of the Dead", "Hot Fuzz" and now, this.

Very few movies hit the right notes while avoiding cliche, but this is a good example. I mean, from what I'd read (and even from where I thought the movie was going to go after its introduction), I thought Pegg was trying to get in shape to win back his ex-girlfriend. Not really; he has a more genuine purpose.

And his foil (Hank …
