Micro-budget action thriller that still packs a whallop and some scenes still remain shocking;especially the senseless murder of a young girl. Director John Carpenter does a very good job keeping the plot suspenseful.

Pretty entertaining action movie. The main characters were all fairly interesting, but the plot and antagonists really needed some more development.

This reviewer would be part of the minority who thinks this was a really good film. Lacks sufficient character development, had a monotonous soundtrack, and fair acting. Screenplay was wonderful with lines: "There are no heroes anymore, Bishop. Just men who follow orders." "You should always tell the truth. Even a little white lie can sometimes trip a man up." and "Maybe your luck will change." The action sequences and violence was well emphasized but the editing could have been better. Overall, Assault on Precinct 13 is much like a b-movie which lacks a solid plot but makes a point for its efforts.

In his heyday, John Carpenter was the master of cinematic suspense, and this story of urban violence was one of his best. A deserted police station is laid siege to by a fanatical gang out for blood when one of their number is killed by a man hysterical with grief when they casually murder his young daughter. In fact there isn't much more to the plot than that; this film is all about attitude and atmosphere. There are loads of great one liners, particularly from Darwin Joston as the laconic anti-hero who joins forces with his captors, and the characters are all very memorable. Laurie Zimmer, despite the virtually complete absence of romance in the situation has a sultry charisma that reminded me of a young Lauren Bacall, and the plot has a very strong message; namely that violence begets …

One of Carpenter's Best

I'd say that John Carpenter is certainly one of my favourite filmakers. The guy's so creative and multi-talented, you've gotta love him. From his horror films like HALLOWEEN, THE THING, and THE FOG, to his action films like ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, Carpenter is certainly a great filmaker. However, one of my favourites of his is his second feature film, the highly acclaimed exploitation flick ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13. Let's see just what makes this one of my favourite action movies...

PLOT- The LAPD's oldest station, Precinct 9, Division 13, is closing down. Highway Patrolman Ethan Bishop (Austin Stoker) is assigned to run it during its last day. However, the Street Thunder Gang has worn a blood oath to kill every cop in the station. Lt Bishop, a few cops, …
