Fast Times at Ridgemont High review

A high-school film that revolves around an industrious Brad Hamilton (Judge Reinhold), stoner/surfer Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn), star football player Charles Jefferson (Forrest Whitaker), business-minded Mike Damone (Robert Romanus), Mike's shy gentlemanly friend Mark "Rat" Ratner (Brian Backer) together with friends Stacy Hamilton (Jennifer Jason Leigh) Linda (Phoebe Cates). Soundtrack was wonderful and one can see the future legends in Whitaker and Penn. If you are observant, you can also see a young Eric Stoltz and Nicolas Coppola (or who we can refer to now as Nicolas Cage). The nudity for its era was surprising, themes touched were sensitive and direction somewhat entertaining enough. Fast Times at Ridgemont High

We are all dorks in some way. I very much adored this movie because it really does stand out among what seems like an ocean of 80's teen flicks. Rarely do I get to watch a woman wanting sex more than the man, a teen druggie that I care about, and high school students just being high school students in a naturalized setting. This film has that organic feel to it so I can relate a lot easier here than the modern teen movies being released in theatres. Some stereotypes are blurred or destroyed. For instance, the popular guy that one expects to ruin everyone's lives turns out to be really kind-hearted. There's no bitchy cheerleader, no cat-fights; just an observation of high school students from fall to summer. I recommend this to everyone who loves movies from the 1980's... and the fans of "...
