Gone Baby Gone review

One of the most powerful and authentic pictures I’ve seen in a while. This critic was fortunate to get the DVD on sale with its special features. Amanda has been missing and her aunt approaches Patrick Kenzie (Casey Affleck) and his partner Angie Gennaro (Michelle Monaghan). Helene McCready (Amy Ryan) is the vain and irresponsible mother of Amanda. Detectives Remy Bressant (Ed Harris) and Nick Poole (John Ashton) and Captain Jack Doyle (Morgan Freeman) become involved with the case. Astonishing quotes from the movie: Patrick - “Life's full of surprises.” Remy – “It’s a war man. Are we winning?” Doyle – “How many children have we seen destroyed?” “You don’t know what the world is made of yet.” “We don't know why people do what they do.” “Angie …

"Gone Baby Gone " by Yojimbo

The aunt of a young girl who goes missing hires two local private detectives to find her amidst the usual accompanying media frenzy. Gone Baby Gone was directed and co-written by Ben Affleck on his debut behind the camera but please don't let that put you off! It's actually one of the most refreshingly adult and well-written cop thrillers in recent memory. The story felt to me almost like L.A. Confidential done in the style of TV series The Wire, in that there is very little in the way of moralistic black and whites, all set in a ghetto-like environment with the associated colourful yet believable language and characters. It's a film that actually has something to say, examining questions of the personal sense of right and wrong and the cynical media hype machine milking such incidents …

Gone Baby Gone review

There have been crime movies that have taken place in a few different cities, but Boston seems to be the main one where everything just has a lot more depth to it. Everything seems a lot deeper, from the characters, to the atmosphere. Gone Baby Gone is based from one of Dennis Lehane novels. One of his novels has already made the big screen. That would be Mystic River. Clint Eastwood directed Mystic River, and he set the bar extremely high in his suburb adaptation of Lehane's compelling story. Which director takes on Gone Baby Gone, that would be Ben Affleck in his directional debut. His acting can not even be compared to Clint Eastwood, but now he tries to see how good he can be behind the camera. He does not disappoint. As you may have already guessed, this movie is set in …

THIS FILM HAS "BEN AFFLEK" WRITTEN ALL OVER IT

Wow,was this film truly amazing.it was like watching a classic 40's detictive film mixed with some Frank Sinatra ( if that's saying anything).Ben Afflek has proven that not only can he creat a film, but write a masterpiece.this film goes into th character's emotions like I've never seen before.the mystery in this film was just plain original for a plot that's been done many times.but that's how good Afflek is,he can make a plot that's been done many times and re-creat it with his own style and writing.Casey Afflek in this film was truly amazing.I've enjoyed him from all of the roles he has chosen (especially in "good will hunting") Casey Afflek has also proven that he can be a leading man,not with only his smart wit humar, but with his fantastic acting all on his own.Michelle monaghan as …

Gone Baby Gone

I'm surprised by how focused this movie was. I didn't think Ben Affleck had it in him to direct such a suspenseful picture but I was proven wrong. I liked the dark tone of the film, the twists, and the evolution of Casey Affleck's charismatic but flawed character. None of the elements in this film felt forced. Even though it was about a tragedy, it had some sort of an organic feel to it; as if it can happen in real life, not just in the movies. I also liked that the ending offers no easy solution, which made it all the more haunting. I think this film deserves to be nominated for at least one Oscar because I enjoyed it a lot. I wouldn't change anything about this film because every punch landed on the right spot. The highlight has got to be the lake scene when the protagonists are about …

Didn't expect to like this film so much but as it went on I understood why others liked it so much. The story is simply just a great story. It starts out as a pretty straight forward detective movie, but Casey Affleck's character, Patrick, is a bit unordinary for a private investigator. He has a cocky attitude, hard as nails personality but doesn't come off as anything remotely threatening (could be due to his smaller stature). His character blends well with the plot of a inner-city Boston PI who doesn't really want to get mixed up in matters of life and death but does anyhow because he wants to do the right thing.

**** Spoilers ahead -- This movie will not be good if you know what is below *****

The right thing. That is what this movie is all about. Is it right to kill a child …
