Magic & Bird: A Courtship of Rivals review

Definitely part of my collection since I was inspired by Larry Bird to play basketball. The Celtics and Lakers were very huge back in the 80's. Stern said it himself that if it weren't for the legendary battles and popularity of Magic and Bird then it wouldn't have been popular in the 90's and beyond. People wanted to see 2 6'9" rivals do everything on the basketball court. Both can score, rebound, pass and dribble with the best. They commanded leadership with polarizing personalities. Bird the shy but trash talking leaders of the Celtics while Magic was ShowTime who always smiled, gave high fives and creating fast breaks. It is unusual that two very competitive and unique individuals (Bird born poor and used to be a farmer/garbage man while Magic born with the silver spoon) can become friends and global icons that paved the way for MJ, Kobe, Jason Kidd, Penny Hardaway, Dirk Nowitzki, Lebron and the rest of the players who admired them.
