The Extra Man

Extra Man review
Daniel Corleone - wrote on 07/06/12

An eclectic playwright Henry Harrison (Kevin Kline) encounters a bizarre Louis Ives (Paul Dano). Louis finds a job and falls for his colleague Mary Powell (Katie Holmes). The premise of a weird confused youngster who likes dresses, a grown man manipulative of elders to survive and a huge guy with a voice of a girl was just overwhelming to bear. The conclusion was disappointing as everything immediately went positive. Soundtrack was good but the humor sometimes too scripted. Paul Dano was impressive in There Will Be Blood and Little Miss Sunshine, but was very dull and too polite here. Extra Men probably tried to be Harold and Maude in a kinky perverse way, yes it had a few laughs but overall just plain laughable at how 3 weirdo’s end up being friends is just mesmerizing to think off.
