Similar premise to Sunshine but with a smaller crew and a simpler ship. Disconnecting the "electronic brain" much like Space Odyssey were also present. The crew has plans to stop a space ship which threatens to destroy the Earth. Ray get's trapped and a rescue mission ensues. For a sci-fi flick I was impressed by its screenplay: Al - "What's the use of living if Earth is destroyed" George - "What have we been doing in these thousand of years?...in reality we've been getting further away from our selves." Lucy - "We mustn't give up hope." Ray - "That's the Earth"

If only the the acting was better, the commander's expression never changes and Rik Van Nutter (Ray the reporter) just wasn't that pleasing to watch which weakens the romantic angle with Lucy. The movies editing could have been improved as well. Themes of acceptance, sacrifice, priorities and value of life were exhibited. The commentary style helped in making you comprehend the film which adds details needed to enjoy the story. Overall, the effects, score and intent were good. Assignment Outer Space could have been silently an influential space sci-fi, truly ahead of its time visually.
