Malcolm X review

The history of Malcolm X was stunningly portrayed effectively by Denzel Washington. Playing a part in one of the most influential African American leaders is such a challenging task. Angela Bassett as Betty Shabazz was good in being a wife to Malcolm. A few memorable quotes: Baines – “A man curses because he doesn't have the words to say what's on his mind.” Malcolm X – “Cats that hung out together trying to find a solution found nothing. Cats that might have proved space or cured cancer, West Indian Archie might have been a mathematical genius... but we were all victims of the American social order.” “All we've seen is hypocrisy! We don't see any American Dream. We've experienced only the American Nightmare!” The film’s intent was good; unfortunately there were one too many dull scenes that could have been edited to make it “watchable.” If only the highlights were shown instead of the droning speeches and preparations for certain moments that doesn’t really tie the story. You can see 2 transformations from our protagonist, conversion to Islam and then to a man of who sees equality and favors peace. A movie that depicts morality, which was in my opinion, overdone and exposed. Nevertheless, if you have the patience, time and audacity to view the biography of a popular leader who did anything to protect his people, Malcolm X is for you.
