Welcome to classic popcorn movie with explosive action, mythical weapons, and unbelievable stunts. It’s the olde fashioned story of good guys vs. the bad guys with an exciting and engaging 1st ten minutes of the film which keeps the pace and your attention nearly all the way through. The dialogue and the script, however leaves something to be desired. Some of the transitions and character development were a little cheesy, but I liked that they maintained the same plot all the way through and didn’t try to cheat the audience with some crazy subplot in three different parts leaving you ask, “Where’d that come from.”
Some of the computer graphics team must have liked the holographic feature a little too much. I personally feel they could have held back a bit, because at one part of the movie it seemed like everyone was a hologram! Can you say, “CGI overload?” And I’m thinking...ok! You guys have phenomenal graphics...let’s move on!
I fear that a few of the soldiers in this movie were absent the day they taught acting at GI Joe Training school. A couple of the actors, and one actress in particular could have taken a note or two from Snake eyes and kept her mouth shut. Some of the scenes were shot a little too close for my taste. Although it added some intensity to the moment...I like to be able to see the action...not get dizzy watching it.
There is somewhat of a high body count, but surprisingly very little blood, profanity, and finally...no sexual innuendo proving once again that you don’t need sex in a movie to be entertained. There are a couple of disturbing scenes, but nothing you can’t bypass with a quick trip to refill your popcorn.
In this movie, the elite Joe team uses the latest in next-generation spy and military equipment while bringing in a couple of new recruits, Duke and Rip Cord to fight the corrupt arms dealer and the growing, threat of the cobra organization and prevent them from plunging the world into utter chaos
