French director Bertrand Tavernier delivers us a smart, engaging film straight out of the Louisiana swamps. The film is in English with Tommy Lee Jones as a real go-getter. Peter Sarsgaard & Kelly MacDonald play movie stars (LOL). The stories of a dead prostitute and a movie filmed on location in Louisiana intertwine until the danger appears too close to home.

There is a director's cut, which appeared in Cannes and in the theatrical release in Europe. However, in America, it was released straight to DVD (why?? It is one of the best films I've seen in a long time!!). However, the shortened American version is really, really great. The end must have been the part that was truncated, because everything seemed to wrap up within the last 3 minutes, literally. But other than that, it was a superb film. I would say I was surprised, but I wasn't, because this is the type of wonderful entertainment you can expect from Bertrand Tavernier (who also directed the divine Coup de Tourchon, known in the USA as Clean Slate).
