It seems that in the late 70s and early 80s, the British became interested in seeing Alfred Hitchcock's early classics remade. The first was The Thirty-Nine Steps with Robert Powell and now this with Cybil Shepard leading an all-star cast. Shepard is as beautiful as ever-the first shot of her is her bottom as she flaunts herself on top a table wearing a lovely white dress...and wearing a fake Hitler moustache. Yes, that's the first hint after five minutes of opening credits actually shot on location in Germany that at first make you think it'll be classy this remake is gonna be a homage to 1930s screwball comedies aside from Hitchcockian thrillers. And it meshes well together as poorly as you'd expect it to.
Cybil Shepard tries but the slapstick humor that she incorporates in her performance gets old the moment you see that moustache.Angela Lansbury acts circles around her and Elliot Gould does better. Fans of Indiana Jones like myself might get a kick out of seeing Wolf Kahler (Dietrich from ROTLA) in the climactic stand-off.
