Junior

Good script, though scientifically impossible

"Dr. Alexander 'Alex' Hesse" (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and "Dr. Larry Arboghast" (Danny DeVito) are in the process of early experimentation on "Expectane", a drug designed to aid women who cannot bring a pregnancy to term.

When the two bring their findings to the FDA, they are turned down -- possibly because "Arboghast" was very blunt with them. Upon hearing this, the head of the Science Department of the university (Frank Langella) where the experiments on "Expectane" are taking place kick them out of the lab they are using, and give it to "Dr. Diana Reddin" (Emma Thompson), who is somewhat of a klutz at times. She is doing a study on frozen eggs, one of which is her own that she has named "Junior."

After being turned down by the FDA, and kicked out of the lab, "Hess" leaves for a trip overseas, and "Arboghast" follows him to convince him to continue their work. However, he has a strange twist in the next phase of the tests -- implant the egg in the abdomen of a male subject. And he picks "Hesse" as the host to the egg.

So, after "Arboghast" steals one of the eggs "Reddin" is examining in her study, he implants the stolen egg into "Hesse," who is taking the "Expectane" in liquid form every four hours, to see just how the drug, enhanced by female hormones, reacts to the human body, although the wrong gender. But they are doing it while hiding their experiment from "Noah Banes" (Langella) as well as the donor of the egg -- "Reddin".

Despite the impossible science in this movie, it's pretty fun. Yet again, Schwarzenegger and DeVito show that they are a nearly perfect comedic team. DeVito does a pretty good straight man to the surprisingly comedic Schwarzenegger. The chemistry between the two are nearly flawless, but are a little weak at times in this movie.

The main cast works pretty well with each other, and the pairs of Schwarzenegger/Thompson and DeVito/Reed are nice on-screen duos and work well together in the scenes they are the focus of. Personally, I would have liked to have seen "Angela" (Reed) and "Banes" in a bit more. I would have also liked to have seen a lot more comedic scenes where "Banes" is snooping around to see what the two doctors are up to.

There is a lot of comedic moments through the entire movie. Some of the comedy will give you a fairly good laugh, while others will give you a a pretty good chuckle. I personally didn't laugh hard at any jokes, so I would say that the jokes are not that hilarious.

The special effects in this movie are average at best. Both Reed and Schwarzenegger, who both played pregnant characters, obviously wore fake pregnant stomachs made out of some rubber designed to mimic a real stomach carrying a baby to term. Although the prosthetic stomachs were made to look real, they really don't.

The music is not that memorable in this movie. I only remember at least two songs in the entire movie, one of which was during some of the absolute funniest moments in the entire movie. Then again, I probably have to teach myself to listen to the soundtrack while watching so I can make better comments in my reviews.

I would not put this really high on your "Must See" List, but I would say it would be a fairly good rental if your first choice is not available.
