The Thing (2011)

Great prequel answers all questions...

Impressive prequel that makes me lie in wait that they will begin production someday on a actual sequel to '82s The Thing. I personally always categorize this as being a sci-fi film not so much horror. I am a huge fan of all things sci-fi and i also find that the '82 version of this film along with Ridley Scott's Bladerunner to be two of the best sci-fi's ever. All that being said i was literally jumping up and down after seeing the tv spots and trailers for this prequel after finally seeing the film i was not let down. If you are a fan of the 1982 original ,as i am, then the prequel will provide you with loads of answers to what actually happened to that Norwegian scientific team that as you remember, had Macready (Kurt Russell) wondering where 'that crazy swede' came from at the beginning of the 82 version.

Remember Macready's team risked rough weather in the skiy and arrived at the abandoned Norwegian outpost that they later find all the crew dead...some burnt and all frozen? The prequel sheds some light on this subject and so many more from the original. We now go back in time to when the Norwegian crew was alive and well joined with some American scientists who upon discovering a UFO inbedded in the ice, excavate it's cargo immediatly, and when it thaws out...all hell breaks loose the thing starts to once again replicate the crew one by one.

The thing i liked about 2011's The Thing lol.. is the fact that director Matthijs Van Heijningen Jr. who is a Dutch filmmaker, this being his first American film, and who is already set to direct 2013's 'Army Of The Dead' took extensive time watching and re-watching the John Carpenter version, so he in turn could leave no question from the priginal go answered right down to a hatchet the'82 team saw imbedded in one of the doors of the Norwegian site. Another thing (sorry cannot stop using that word) that i loved about this prequel was the state of the art technology used on this film although i might add that the 82 version wasn't that bad for the time it came out either. The mutations of the thing are much better this time around. A must see for any fan of the original!!.
