Once Upon a Time in Anatolia ( Bir Zamanlar Anadolu'da )

A quest to film wind for 2.5 hours.

Sometimes the strangest flicks get chosen to win the biggest awards. And the winner of the Grand Prix is: what. This film makes itself out to be the chronicle of a few hours in the lives of diverse people working on the same case of murder, with no proper lead-in, no proper execution and a completely missing conclusion. What intrigued me greatly was the way this film started after a mysterious prelude. A gorgeous wide-shot to introduce us into the setting and after that we were pretty much with the characters. If only they had been actual characters with clear motives and intentions, other than constant outlandish implications which detracted from the plot even more. This leads me to the question I was asking myself from around …

the scientist fail because they were choosed to have knowledge but also to be a good enviroment for the colony. you want wall street like competition over booty food and so on? they were ment to be compliant, good persons. these were their guns. but...bad luck. so, the mission before earth departure had to be, was in good parameters.
i believe that engineers were after resurses biomass or metals, or even the whole planet. so the black spores, goo, would end things quickly for them and for us. …

I loved this movie because of the awesome realism. I felt like I was thirteen all over again, when I spent the summer in El Centro, CA and encountered my first kiss...at a water park!

The synchronicity of certain shots were a nice touch in your review. Truly one of the best and this really caught me by surprise of how great a film this was from all aspects (plot, camera movement, mood, music, acting, etc.).

Gotta agree with Slumdog. Somewhat overrated, I preferred 127 Hours and Trainspotting from Boyle.

Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans Review comment

I felt the fun fair scene was essential to remove the tension and symbolize the positive aspects of marriage. Loved your review for one of the best silent films for me. Glad you saw this.
