An overly familiar hostage action/drama bolstered by the charisma of it's two stars. It's all very formulaic but watchable enough. |

The commanding performances by the lead cast elevate this thriller to an exciting and interesting rollercoaster ride. Samuel L. Jackson is best at playing a desperate man and here, the script smartly continues to elevate the stakes to seemingly insurmountable heights. It's a little farfetched at times, but it never loses its entertainment value. |

The Negotiator is a great action mystery. I feel it does not get a lot of recognition, but the story is very good. Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey are great in all their scenes together. Their dialogue in this movie are great. The side characters are also well acted and interesting. |

This was definitely one of Jackson's better movies. While he can't let go of his typical loud mouth tough guy character which can be very annoying, that didn't get in the way of the overall plot. This plot was actually very solid and executed almost flawlessly. Also its hard for things to go too badly when Kevin Spacey is a co-star. He's brilliant as always. |

The Negotiator review |
|
Lieutenant Danny Roman (Samuel L. Jackson) is a competent police hostage negotiator whose partner, Nathan “Nate” Roenick (Paul Guilfoyle), was murdered. Danny is being framed for the killing with the gun and offshore accounts. Danny holds people hostage and would like to talk to Chris Sabian (Kevin Spacey). Film tends to slow down because of the research done to find the mastermind who had Nate killed. Only reservations this critic noticed is the unresolved “informant” and how Danny didn’t fight off or question Chris when a gun was pointed at him. Soundtrack was respectable and screenplay was interesting. The performances of Spacey and Jackson are the main highlights and themes of trust and friendship was exemplified. The Negotiator starts and ends brilliantly with enjoyable actio... |
