Writer/director/star Chris Rock simply does not know how to handle this movie, which is in search of humor, a decent plot and a pulse; there is very little sympathy garnered for his bored sad-sack, and his wife is even worse. At the very least, it does have a positive outlook on adultery in the end. Too bvad it's not worth taking the journey until then. Final Grade: D+

A huge disappointment but far from among the worst movies of the year. I like the movie that this was based on better: Chloe in the Afternoon. That was my first Eric Rohmer film and since then I've seen almost everything I can get my hands on by him. I can see why they wanted to Americanize it.
I usually think Chris Rock is funny, but this film falls a little flat. |

Even though the following statement will not say a lot, I am proud to say it: I've never seen Chris Rock so mature in a role... ever. I actually loved him in this movie because he played a real, conflicted husband who just happens to be going through a marriage problem, not just some fool that babbles on and on. Another way this is different from most romantic comedies out there is that this is a story about an African-American family that explicitly tries to integrate itself into the white, dominant society. I found that to be honest because I know families like that. It moved me because it reminded me that we are still living in a world where n... |
